If you have been bottle-feeding your child and you think it's time to dish out the baby food, you might want to postpone that thought a little longer. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics' guidelines, solid foods should not be given to babies before 4 months of age. Those who were introduced to solid foods prematurely had a six-fold increase in the odds of being obese at age 3. This study is especially true for bottle-fed infants. Parents are advised to give their children their first solid food between the ages of 4 and 6 months.
