Asthma, Colds and Children

Find out how to be extra vigilant when it comes to your family's respiratory health, especially during the season of increased travel and play

Regardless of the time of the year, parents must be proactive in keeping their loved ones healthy. Children with asthma are particularly at risk for developing health complications from the common cold. Upper respiratory infections are commonly caused by viruses such as rhinovirus. These viral upper respiratory infections can trigger spasm of the bronchial tree, which is responsible for making sure air is spread over as much space as possible in the lungs. A spasm of the bronchial tree can cause bronchoconstriction and an asthma attack.
