The jewelry designer behind the Because Candy Says So blog is a mother of two equally lovely and interesting young ladies—Jody and Jacqui. We met the candid “Candifier” one sunny afternoon—a perfect backdrop for the shoot, which was held in her gorgeous ancestral home. Speaking of ancestors, Candy also happens to be part of the Jul B. Dizon empire, a company better known as the most-awarded jewelry store in the Philippines. Find out how she juggles her blog, business, and travels, without compromising the time for her two lovely daughters, and fiancĂ©, Andreas.
How did you get into blogging?
I had gone to Europe for a month. I took so many photos and when I got back to Manila, I didn’t know what to do with them. It must have been a thousand photos. I decided to open up a blog so I can share them with those who haven’t been to Europe.
What sites do you visit online and what are your favorite blogs?
As much as possible, I don’t read other people’s blogs because I don’t want to get influenced with their thoughts on things, services, or products because I am also a critique. But sometimes, I just can’t help but catch up on what Chuvaness has to say. She always makes me laugh. Tripadvisor.com is a site I always check before I travel. I don’t shop online too much.
How do your daughters react to your blogging?
They don’t often read my blog, but when they do, they always say that their mom is the coolest!
Any advice for moms who want to start a blog?
Make sure you have plenty of interesting things to say. What you are wearing, who you are wearing, and what you just bought is not that interesting. You have to be worldly, a traveler, an explorer, and creative to make your blog interesting. As much as possible, don’t stop. Post as much as you can to keep your readers hooked. Sometimes, I am so excited to post something that I don’t proofread, therefore I have spelling and grammar mistakes. Try to avoid that as much as possible so that your blog is not only interesting, it is also smart.
